I have been called in to work some Diagrams tomorrow Morning. As the wife is
away does anyone have any Ideas on what I could do with my son whilst I am
working. My initial thought was to seat him by the cab door but does anyone
have any better ideas that dont involve him staying at home or get a
childminder that can start at 7am!

A new piece of Legislation has now become Law that requires
Employers to take into account dependants of their employees.

They should (after you explain the situatino to them) allow you to
look after your Child at home.

What Union are you in?

Theres an invitation :-)

I could wax lyrical on this one - but I wont. How many of your
colleagues have faced your position for time to time when they have
to look after dependants at short notice and this conflicts with
their shift patterns?

Another poster who responded on this thread intimated that the
Company would allow you the time off (becasue it has to under the
new Legislation - Employment Act 2002 IIRC) but that it would be
unpaid.

The only way in which you could change that from unpaid to paid
would be to collectively bargain with the Employer. Unlikely to
succeed on your own - very likely to succeed with a weight of
numbers behind you.
