Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can book for a journey to
London? Im starting from Stockport and travelling outwards on July 2nd,
return on the 4th. According to the timetable on the Midlandmainline
site, they are serving Stockport on weekdays at that point yet QJump
wont offer me a direct service - indeed, Stockport to St Pancras puts
me on a Euston train then the tube. I can do Manchester to St Pancras
and just get on at Stockport outwards, but as I would have to go via
Manchester on the return Id need another ticket to get me back to
Stockport. Not vast expense I know but annoying when one ticket should
cover it. Also, I want to book on the 17:45 return on the Sunday but
QJump wont offer me tickets for it. Full Stop. I cant even book an
Open Return for this journey! It offers plenty for the 16:45 but Id
rather go for the later one. Am I missing something? TIA!

Presuming you havent already tried it, try putting one of the stations
the MML service stops at between Stockport and London in the via
field.

Yup, Id tried something similar to that (Direct trains only) and it
does give a 06:xx departure but no others. Doing via Leicester and
unticking direct and fastest journeys either takes me in to Manchester
or via Sheffield...

Im not sure about this, but QJump appears to have difficulties where
services reverse. For example, I ended up buying a ticket from Nottingham to
Cardiff, even though I *knew* direct services stopped at Beeston. Sure
enough the train I caught stopped at Beeston, thus wasting my 30 minutes
waiting for and riding the bus, and my ??1.20 :-(.

What I dodnt know is why it shows Nottinhgam Direct but Beeston change at
Derby. Perhaps my theory is incorrect. I dunno.

I think there is a problem here - Network Rail are not confirming to MML
what access there will be to Longsight around then, and which routes are
really open. (I think there is a note in RBI this week that Virgin were told
of a recent blockade at Stockport just three days in advance).

I think someone at MML told me they couldnt input all the trains into the
system until NR declares its hand... which may be just days before.

If the route is closed the trains will run from Piccadilly missing
Stockport, which is why you can see the trains from Piccadilly.

Try phoning MML telesales (no. on the website) for more information.

Yup, I sort of came to that conclusion. The MML timetable shows
Stockport being served but what little info there is on the NR website
shows Stockport to Manchester being closed.

MML appear to be my only real option, Virgin have either sold or not
released their cheap tickets so a Ł70ish Weekender would be the only
option that way.

Still doesnt explain why I cant buy a ticket on the 17:45 return
though... :s
