Some old style BR blue/greenish slam door carriages - complete with BR
logo - at about 19:35 on platform 12 iirc. Some company, probably SWT, has
obviously paid to maintain them. The name was Gordon Pettitt. The front 2
carriages of the 8 car train were standard SWT and the older ones looked
much cleaner and in better condition!

Yes that is refurbished VEP 3417 recently repainted.

Was rumoured to do a 1538 London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour today.

I believe they are not letting this VEP do much work. Worried about
vandals. I wish they would paint a CIG seeing as CEP 1592 was done recently
withdrawn and scrapped.

Anyone know if the Mid-Hants has their eye on this VEP for when its
withdrawn? Id be ideal for running with one of their 33s.
Itd be a shame not to have some of the SR Mk1 EMUs preserved. (Im
surprised nobody offered a home for 1592).

Does it have to be withdrawn in the near future?

Being a Mk1 based unit its officially unsafe and has to be withdrawn
as soon as possible. In practice, this means itll be withdrawn at some
point within the next year or two as more and more of SWTs slamdoor
EMUs are replaced with the new class 450 Desiros.

Even better if they could extend the 3rd rail down to Alresford

Just thought maybe the Bluebell which did have 3rd rail at Horsted
Keynes when it first opened for the Haywards Heath branch trains.
